Senator Ted Gaines (R-El Dorado) reacted to the results of today’s snow survey by the Department of Water Resources which showed that statewide, the snowpack holds 45.5 inches of snow water equivalent, or 185 percent of the March 1 average (24.6 inches). The central and southern regions in the Sierra Nevada are close to reaching the more than 30-year record for snowpack statewide.

Senator Ted Gaines (R-El Dorado) today sent the following letter to President Trump requesting that – in light of the Oroville Dam crisis – he take action to conduct an immediate and thorough inspection of Folsom Dam; the existing Folsom Dam spillways; the soon-to-be-completed auxiliary spillway; and all levees potentially affected by a dam failure or unregulated flow from Folsom Lake.

Senator Ted Gaines (R-El Dorado) reacted to the results of this morning’s California snow survey, a measurement of the water content of California’s snowpack. This monthly survey is used to determine the amount of runoff the state can expect throughout the spring and summer. Typically, melting snow provides roughly 30-percent of California’s water supply.
